  • Walkoff Homerun: Shawn Green

    (NYM) Shawn Green's walkoff homerun in the bottom of the 11th carried the Mets past the Cardinals at Shea Stadium on Sunday. The final score was 2-1, with the Cards taking the loss.

    But I ain't mad at it.

    Don't let this post fool you, I am a Cardinals fan. Obvious if you look around you. But being somewhat of a Mets fan as well, and having a fantasy team that is about 33 percent Mets (including Mr. Green himself) makes this loss a good one. Never thought there could be a good loss did you? Those two words don't go together do they?

    Apparently either we've never met, or you don't know me very well.

    Anyway, looking forward to the rest of the sexiest series in Major League Baseball...

  • Musical Tastes a’ Changin

                Well, they’re not so much changing as they are actually expanding. Hanging out with David, who pretty much lives and breathes musical variety, I am learning about all sorts of “good music.”

    If you spend any time at all with David and Justin, who might be the only one to rival David in a contest about who knows the most about music, they’ll tell you there really isn’t any bad music, just that some people prefer some to others—which I guess is true with a “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” mindset.

                With six CDs labeled “Good Music Vol. 1-6,” he’s introduced me to bands I have never heard of, those I’ve heard of but never heard, and those I’d heard and hadn’t appreciated before. There are a few songs with which I was already familiar, but for the most part, these are new to me.

                Here are my favorite selections from Vol. 1:

    LILY ALLEN

    <img src= http://blogging.la/archives/images/2006/08/2006_08_18_lily_allen.jpg>

    This British pop singer is amazing. At 22, she’s beautiful, she’s badass and she’s pretty much amazing all around.

    SONGS I CAN’T STOP LISTENING TO: “LDN,” “Everything’s Just Wonderful,” “Knock ‘Em Out”

    Check her sound out on MySpace, or at:

    LESLIE FEIST

    <img src= http://centripetalnotion.com/images/feist.jpg>

    SONGS I CAN’T STOP LISTENING TO: “1234,” “I Feel It All”

    Check her sound out on MySpace.

    VOXTROT

    <img src= http://explodingnow.com/images/6.jpg>

    SONGS I CAN’T STOP LISTENING TO: “Rise Up In The Dirt”

    Check their sound out at:

    www.myspace.com/voxtrot

    PETER BJORN AND JOHN

    <img src= http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y150/Saltlick/peterbjornandjohn_color.jpg>

    SONGS I CAN’T STOP LISTENING TO: “Young Folks”

    Check their sound out at:

                One of the best parts is that he gives my music a chance too—everything from Slipknot to NSYNC to the Beastie Boys, Beatles, REO Speedwagon, Blink 182 and much more.

    I even got him listening to John Mayer—he’d heard some of his stuff before but didn’t know how much he’d like “Continuum,” with its bluesy sound. Go me.

    More to come as I explore these CDs further…

  • Unrelated to baseball...

    Coming up on one year with The Telegraph. July 12 (Rachelowe's b-day!)

    I have been out of school for more than a year now, and I'm still adjusting to some things: I'm not used to being in one place constantly, and my one year marks one year of being at home with no changes in the forseeable future.

    I always liked having something to count down to:
    3 more weeks until I come home from Rock Island... 1 month before Christmas vacation... 2 years until graduation... stuff like that.

    Now its:
    One month until...
    OH WAIT, I'll be doing the same thing in a month, possibly for a lot longer than that.
    I'll be in the same place doing the same thing and nothing seems like its going to change.

    I'm getting comfortable, but comfort is feeling a lot like boredom right now. And it also leaves me a little scared. Everytime I seem to get comfortable with my own situation, other people change and my situation changes when I don't want it to and there's nothing I can do about it. I hate being powerless.

    I need to do something to take control of my life, but I don't like running everytime there's a possibility other people might change.

    Just thinking out loud...
